Director General, World Organisation for Animal Health

Biography

Dr Emmanuelle Soubeyran was elected Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) on 28 May 2024 by the World Assembly. She began her five-year term of office on 1 August 2024, as the 8th Director General of the WOAH. 

 With a background in veterinary medicine and specializations in veterinary public health and epidemiology, Dr Emmanuelle Soubeyran brings extensive experience in addressing animal health issues at both national and international levels.

She has been at the forefront of managing significant health crises, including avian influenza and bluetongue. Dr Soubeyran has led the development of emergency response plans and preventive measures against influenza, African swine fever, and zoonoses. Additionally, she has been a strong advocate for “One Health” programs, particularly in addressing antimicrobial resistance and zoonoses, in collaboration with the human health and environmental sector.”
