Biography
Prof. Sir Jeremy Farrar is the Director of the Wellcome Trust. Under his leadership, Wellcome has established AMR as a central priority for research funding and advocacy activities. He has been a long-standing advocate for action on AMR, with a focus on supporting these activities in resource-limited settings. He is a member of the UK Government’s COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force, the UK Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, and the Joint World Bank/WHO Global Preparedness Monitoring Board. Jeremy has been engaged in global health research for many years, collaborating across sectors and playing a leading role in the responses to the 2014 Ebola outbreak and the global COVID-19 pandemic. He was previously Professor of Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oxford and Director of the Clinical Research Unit at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. He graduated in medicine from the University College London Medical School and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
